Other work includes research carried out by haematologists,
curious texts produced by art critics (I think they were art critics),
love letters, begging letters, esoteric descriptions of wine written by enthusiastic
oenologists (I hope I got it right), instructions on how to use welding
equipment, poetry (written in a variety of psychological states ranging from
utter dejection to pure joy), driving licences, school diplomas from countries no longer behind the iron curtain,
spare parts lists for the automotive industry (never again!), technical
manuals for woodworking machinery, doctoral theses on linguistics and
text-analysis, other theses by a professor of economics,
politicians' speeches, government policies, a website for an ombudsman …
The list seems endless.
I am versatile. However, translators must clearly comprehend all of the concepts contained in a text and be aware of
the right 'register'. Access to specialised terminology is also important.
I always initially ascertain whether the documents clients need to have translated
do actually fall within my range of competence. There is a good chance that they will.
